Lesson 5: Become The Problem Solver

Time: 60 minutes

Materials: Lesson 5 video; One recycled box for each student filled with one-inch wide recycled cardboard strips plus glue and masking tape; markers; The Daily Doodle notebooks.

Overview: Students learn how to become the ultimate problem solver by using the sciences.

They learn that scientists solve all kinds of problems and improve our lives with inventions like the iPhone, artificial limbs, robots and space probes. They think about all the cool things created with a basic understanding of the sciences.

In The Universe Within, students use one of four basic sciences to help them solve the problem in their world: Physical, Earth & Space, Life or Engineering Technology Sciences. To learn more, they research the basic sciences, and fields of study of the basic sciences. They, identify one field of study within their basic science that will help their character solve this problem.
