Lesson 7: Measure 2D Shapes
Time: 60 minutes
Materials: Lesson 7 video; Cardboard kits and measuring tapes/rulers; The Daily Doodle notebook and pen, pencil or marker.
Overview: Students learn about the building blocks of geometry: points, lines and plane.
They learn about how they relate to each other to create different types of lines, angles, shapes and forms. They practice drawing some of the shapes in their cardboard kits using points and lines.
Using the cardboard shapes that they created, they measure lengths of sides and types of angles, writing dimensions directly onto their shapes.
Making schematic drawings of the different geometric shapes in their kits, students count the number sides and measure the length of the sides of shapes in their kits. Then, they calculate the area of a square, rectangle and two triangles—that they’ve drawn.
