Lesson 15: Play Around With 3D Shapes

Time: 60 minutes

Materials: Lesson 15 video; The Daily Doodle digital notebook.

Overview: Students play around with 3D shapes on the computer.

They review what they learned in previous lessons about faces, edges and vertices. Students review three different 3D shapes that they’ll explore to practice counting the number of faces, edges and vertices for a cube or a hexahedron, a tetrahedron and an octahedron.

Students work in groups of two on the computer. They spin the shapes around in space as they explore how they look. Then they record the number of faces, vertices and edges for each of the three shapes.

Teams share their results with the class and the class votes on which teams they think have the correct answer for each shape. If there’s time, students count the number faces, vertices and edges of more complex types of 3D shapes.
