Lesson 14: Gain 3D Perspective

Time: 60 minutes

Materials: Lesson 14 video; The Daily Doodle digital notebook; 3D shapes handout,  scissors and glue.

Overview: Students step into the third dimension….of space!

They learn about how the 2D shapes they’ve been working correlate to 3D shapes that have an additional third dimension of depth.  They connect real life objects, a party hat, soda cans, a basket ball and a box to what are called a cones, cylinders, spheres and cubes in 3D geometry.

Students see how the 2D points, lines and planes that they learned about are also parts of 3D shapes. They create 3D shapes from a template, cutting along the solid lines using dotted lines to fold the shape and glue it together.

They draw shapes in 3D, using dotted lines to show perspective and count and record the number of faces, vertices and edges of each shape.
