Lesson 18: Follow Your Purpose

Time: 60 minutes

Materials: Lesson 18 video; The Daily Doodle notebook; index cards and pencils.

Overview: Students stay true to their character’s purpose using the headdress they’ve made.

Students learn how important costumes are, especially when they get a little nervous in front of others, as a way to help them stay focused on the character they want to portray.

They will use their headdresses as a tool to make them feel more confident by creating purposes for the functions they previously identified. What does a tool do? Why does it do it?

As they get ready to share their worlds, they write their poems on an index cards. They sketch the headdresses that they’ve made, then diagram the function and purpose of at least three physical features of the headdress. Students share their drawing and explain how headdresses will help their characters conduct the mission.
